As an art history graduate and museum-lover, I really missed visiting galleries and exhibitions during extended lockdowns. When I created this website as part of my MA in Global Gallery Studies, I decided to use this space to explore the exciting and innovative ways in which public museums and galleries shifted their content online during this pandemic, and how we can continue to enjoy and engage with visual art online – via social media, Zoom talks and virtual exhibitions – even after galleries have reopened. The internet is a powerful educational tool for democratising knowledge and culture – while most visual art is best enjoyed in person, we can take great pleasure in joining an online art lecture that would otherwise be geographically inaccessible.
